Business 2.0 - Magazine Article - Printable Version - Is the Information Revolution Dead?

It is not enough that the base technologies of a revolution become available. Whether these are railroads or microchips, a revolution doesn't fully arrive until we structure our activities -- our organizations and business methods -- around its technologies, and until these technologies adapt themselves to us by becoming comfortable and easy to use.

Excellent article by Brian Arthur. Applicable to much that is currently going on in the internet space.

In particular it applies to the current surge of interest in weblogs, knowledge logs and the next generation of tools (e.g desktop websites, RCS) to support community structures.  What's needed and what is begining to happen is a confluence of technology innovation, process innovation, and conceptual revolution. Russ Lipton's most recent piece on Weblogs, Websites and RCS captures this quite nicely.

Another source of insight into this thread would be David Reed's work on Group Forming Networks
